Why we built them
Most grammar and style checkers charge a monthly fee for the same open-source rules. Wordhurst writes about words all day, so we built the tools we use ourselves and put them here. Sign in with Google to keep your texts and history. If something is wrong, email the editors and we fix it.
What runs where
Spelling, style, readability, counting and case conversion run inside your browser and work offline once the page is open. The grammar check sends your text to the open-source LanguageTool service for the check and keeps nothing. Synonyms, rhymes and meanings come from the Datamuse word engine and the Free Dictionary API.
